"POLTAVA" BATTLESHIP

My path to modeling got it’s beginning with this work (2012)
I gained invaluable experience while working on it.

IDEA

I was inspired by the marine past and reading the history of the Russian Navy to create this project. The large warship Poltava became the first battleship of the Baltic Fleet, built at the Admiralty Shipyards.

MODELING

Based on the Maya 2011 program.

SIMULATION OF WATER AND TISSUES

The water simulation was created in the Naiad program (the software product was purchased by Autodesk and integrated into the software of a company called Bifrost).

The work on the simulation was divided into 4 stages:
1. Water simulation.
2. Foam simulation.
3. Water surface generation.
4. Wave simulation.

A tissue simulation was done in Maya.

VISUALIZATION

The project was almost entirely visualized using Mental Ray (no longer supported). 3delight was used to speed particles rendering. In the end, we have got a layer-cake of sequences - renderings of the ship, water and foam. A depth channel has been added to all sequences.
Raw renders are below

COMPOSITING AND RESULT

Compositing was done in Nuke and editing was done in Adobe Premiere.
